why are mangroves so critical to climate change?
Mangroves are one of the most effective nature-based solutions to combating climate change, and most people don’t even know what a mangrove is. They sequester more carbon than any terrestrial forest, and 3-5x more than the rainforest.
Unfortunately, at the rate of their destruction, largely due to human interference, over building on coast lines, mangroves will disappear and we must all do our part now. The Florida coast as well as the Caribbean basin are two of the most vulnerable places on the planet feeling the impact of the climate crisis. “I am so proud of our work to protect these mighty marine forests and inspired to see so many help us to raise money and awareness to protect and conserve mangroves for future generations,” said Amanda Hearst Rønning, WELL/BEINGS Co-Founder.
