[911] BOLIVIA JAGUAR TRAFFICKING CAMPAIGN

An emergency call to action to stop the killing and trafficking of jaguars in the Bolivian rainforest

It is estimated that there are less than 2,000 jaguars remaining in the Bolivian Rainforest. Sold for parts, the jaguar is under threat of extinction. WELL/BEINGS ethos to support all animals, people, planet with your help, are working to stop this crisis underway.

The trafficking of jaguar’s for pets and more largely for body parts is an activity that has occurred in Bolivia since 2014. Only recently, has this become such an epidemic as small and large agencies in China are promoting $200 US dollars for a jaguar head. With so much poverty in neighboring countries, this has unfortunately become a very attractive offer to many.

The Bolivian Post Office reported a shipment of almost 200 jaguar fangs
from Bolivia to China.

With our partners, La Senda Verde with whom WELL/BEINGS first began to work with in 2020 for the Bolivia Wildfire Crisis, Emergency Koala Relief Campaign, and Rewilding Bee Project, we are coming together once again in support of stopping this jaguar massacre and trade underway.

WE FIRST LEARNED OF THE JAGUAR TRAFFICKING CRISIS THROUGH THE EYES OF A FEMALE BABY JAGUAR NAMED LALA.

Lala was found maimed, her top and bottom canine fangs were pulled out by traffickers for souvenir selling and her paws were infected from her claws being removed in hopes of being sold as a pet.

You can hear the macaws cry nearby as they fly through the trees, pleading for help. Jaguars are screaming from the violence they are facing and the pain of their mothers being killed. - Vicky Ossio, La Senda Verde Co-Founder

Infant and baby jaguars are attractive for pets. Unfortunately, mothers are being murdered for their heads, fangs, and skin for trade and the babies taken away by the traffickers for the profit as pets. Lala was unfortunately part of this inhumane act taken on by traffickers, but she is now safe in her new habitat under the care of a special animal sanctuary, La Senda Verde.

It is estimated that since 2018, there has been nearly a 60% loss in jaguar population of Bolivia rainforest. The animals that are victims of illegal trafficking have a lot of emotional trauma. The mothers are killed first. Mothers will not let their babies go. This is the same for monkeys, cats, and bears. Traffickers will kill the mother when the babies are very small. The moment that they take the animal away from their habitat, this is being done with violence. La Senda Verde is a massive, natural habitat in the rainforest of Bolivia, providing the best care and holistic wellbeing for every animal rescued.

[911] Bolivia Jaguar Animal Trafficking Campaign

Our goal is to help create a path which intercepts traffickers and supports the healing, health and well being of these tortured animals.

It is described by locals in Bolivia that “the Amazon has reached its tipping point.” WELL/BEINGS with our partners leading, have made the decision to protect wildlife in their habitats.

A palm grove where several species of macaws and parrots nest has been identified. Surrounded by thousands of hectares that have not yet been intervened, and are being prepared as a sanctuary for local habitat and jaguars rescued liked baby Lala. Unfortunately, around this area, 700,000 hectares (nearly 2 million acres) are deforested every year – burned down, forest cut away, for large nation companies to plant sugar cane and palm oil.

La Senda Verde with local and global partners are working to rewild degraded ecosystems, repopulating pollinators while reforesting, and if possible, build ponds to plant fish as all the rivers in Bolivia are currently faced with contamination of mercury, with indigenous peoples being the most affected since their diet is based on in fishing.

Lala is thriving in just one month of care. With your help and all of our efforts, legal support and government held further accountable for the trafficking, we are helping to slow these horrific incidents but there is much more to do, protect and build.

Donate today. 100% of your gift will help save the jaguars of the Bolivian rainforest.
