What Makes Quokkas So Happy?!?
We don't know, but humans helping to save quokka homes and habitats is probably high on the list! These adorable marsupials occupy a number of different habitats, including semi-arid scrub forests. In fact, many animals consider forests home.
🌳🌲 Forests cover about 30 percent of the planet's land mass, but humans are cutting them down, clearing these essential habitats on a massive scale. So in addition to wildfires like the ones in Australia, deforestation is greatly threatening the homes and lives of many happy animals.
As for Quakkas, who are native to a narrow strip of range in southwest Western Australia, while the bushfires have destroyed key mainland habitat for them, they can also be found on Rottnest Island and Bald Island. These islands are free of predators, which may be another reason quokkas are so happy.
